Abraham was complicit in the casting out of Hagar and Ishmael in to the wilderness so he was by no means flawless. The Koran whitewashes and brushes his sins under the carpet to make him one of the perfect prophets which he certainly was not

Also he lied twice about the identity of his wife Sarah. The Koran also deletes these episodes from his life. Why does Islam try and deceive us in this manner? To make Mohammed look better?

  1. θ says:

John of Damascus in his lengthy commentary of Islam bears witness to a truth of Islam by concurring with Arab’s belief that Arabs come from Abraham thru Ishmael. It is quite refreshing that as a Syrian Arab he agrees with Islam being the Abrahamic religion thru lineage of Ishmael, whom John and his family also descended from.

    (i) A Syrian Trinitarian monk John of Damascus believes that Arabs descended from Abraham thru Ishmael:
John of Damascus, the Fount of Knowledge II: Heresies in Epitome.
They are descended from Ishmael, [who] was born to Abraham of Agar, and for this reason they are called both Agarenes and Ishmaelites. They are also called Saracens, which is derived from Sarras kenoi, or destitute of Sara, because of what Agar said to the angel: ‘Sara hath sent me away destitute.’

(ii) John witnessed how Arabs believed that Abraham also tried (for the second time, after Ishmael) to sacrifice Isaac.
John of Damascus, the Fount of Knowledge II: Heresies in Epitome.
And we answer them: ‘How is it, then, that you rub yourselves against a stone in your Ka’ba and kiss and embrace it?’ Then some of them say that Abraham had relations with Agar upon it, but others say that he tied the camel to it, when he was going to sacrifice Isaac.
