According to Jesus John the Baptist is greater than Islam’s second-greatest prophet Abraham. Which religion is telling the truth?

Matthew 11 v 11

King James Bible
Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Luke 7 v 28

King James Bible
For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

And John testifies that Jesus is greater than him:

John 1 v 30

King James Bible
This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

  1. θ says:

In terms of closeness to God, Abraham is far more greater than John.
By birth in the world, John is potently more greater than the birth of Abraham even that of Jesus since from John’s conception – even precisely from Zecharia’s seminal discharge – he has been quickened and cleansed by the Spirit by which he then baptises Jesus on the river of Jordan. Jesus is baptised in John’s name by the Spirit and water.

The sending down of one indwelling Spirit to purify John in Elisabeth’ womb serves as a strong evidence that God doesn’t need one’s sacrifice, not even one’s death, let alone one’s bloods.

  2. madmanna says:

John was greater than Abraham by reason of his mission.

  3. Anonymous says:

No, textually Jesus just makes claim of John’s *birth from woman* – not his baptising mission 30 years later – as the main reason why John becomes the greater man alive, even being greater than Jesus’ own Virgin Birth.
Spirit has just overshadowed Mary at most for nine months, whereas Jesus was cleansed by it after reaching 30 years old, but that John had been cleansed by the Spirit rightly from the womb.
