Exodus 34 v 28:
And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

Elijah flees from Jezebel who was angered by a humiliating defeat of the Baal Prophets in a summoning contest. By committing to a fasting, Elijah goes on alone a long journey traveling without touching foods for almost 6 weeks (40 days) from Beersheba, the wilderness, region of Sinai, to Mount Horeb (1 Kings 19:5-8) a same place where Moses received the 10 Commandments.
In Daniel 10:2-3 Daniel’s fasting was for 3 weeks (21 days) which is characterised by abstaining from eating bread, meat, and wine, but he still eats fruits, vegetables and whole grains, as well as the water for drinking.
Daniel does a fasting in order to get the answer of Vision and for a response of his prayer, as mentioned in Daniel 10:1-3, that eventually makes Gabriel descend to give interpretation, even a prophesy.
